Reported use in research
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the endogenous immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, developed as a research tool for studying anxiolytic and nootropic activity. In preclinical models, it is investigated for its influence on GABAergic and serotonergic signalling, as well as its reported effects on the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Research has explored the peptide as a stable analog that resists rapid enzymatic degradation, positioning it as a subject of interest in neuropharmacology models. It is commonly studied in rodent behavioural paradigms to examine mechanisms related to stress response and cognition. Selank is used strictly as a reference compound in laboratory research settings.
Reported findings
Research in animal models reports that Selank modulates the balance of GABAergic and serotonergic neurotransmission and may influence the expression of BDNF and other markers associated with neural plasticity. Rodent studies have described anxiolytic-like and cognition-related effects without the sedative profile reported for some classical anxiolytics. Additional investigations have reported immunomodulatory and neuroprotective properties consistent with its tuftsin-derived structure. These observations have positioned Selank as a subject of ongoing interest in anxiolytic, nootropic and neuroimmune research models.
Handling & safety
The full pharmacological and toxicological profile of Selank has not been completely characterized in research models, and the available data are derived primarily from preclinical and animal studies. It should be handled only by qualified personnel using appropriate laboratory practices and personal protective equipment. As with all research peptides, it should be kept away from unauthorized access and must not be ingested or otherwise introduced into the body. This material is intended solely for controlled in vitro and preclinical investigation.
Reconstitution
Recommended ratio
- 1 mL of bacteriostatic water per 10 mg vial
- Equivalent to 10 mg/mL (i.e. 1 mg per 10 units on a 100 U insulin syringe)
- Remove the plastic flip-off lid from the vial.
- Disinfect the rubber stoppers with alcohol wipes.
- Inject the diluent slowly down the inner wall of the vial to avoid foaming.
- Gently swirl the vial (never shake). Let it dissolve for about 10 minutes.
Storage
Unopened / before reconstitution
- Store at a stable temperature.
- Stable for 24 months.
- For long-term storage (2+ years), store at -20 °C.
Reconstituted solution
- Must be kept refrigerated.
- Avoid exposure to light and excessive heat.
